The Best 1 Minute Motivational Speech Ever: Jim Carrey

As it might be shocking to some, Jim Carrey has become a tremendous source of incredibly inspirational work, primarily found in his speeches.

Here is the 1 minute snippet from one of the most motivational speeches ever. This is an excerpt from his commencement speech to Maharishi University of Management’s class of 2014.

Jim Carrey’s motivational tips

From this video, there are numerous take-aways that are perfect for me and GrindBehindBook.com readers:

  • People often choose their life path out of fear, not what they want
  • It’s very possible to fail regardless of the path you take, so what’s riskier? Failing at something you don’t want to do or taking a chance on something you love?
  • Your mindset may be such that you don’t believe doing what you love is possible. This can artificially box you in.

Leaving the Grind Behind

Having gone through many of these thought patterns myself, and in fact after reading many of the things people like Jim Carrey have said, I have made the leap to becoming an entrepreneur and couldn’t be happier.

Like other entrepreneurs I interview and socialize with, we often work harder than we did in the corporate days, but it sure doesn’t feel that way. Being aligned with your passions and life purpose is a beautiful thing, and something that is next to impossible to do if you’re building out someone else’s dream.

What are the risks of following your passions?

Perhaps in one minute Jim Carrey has convinced you to avoid taking the “safe/conservative” path. Perhaps he has shown you the risks of taking the conservative path are actually much higher than people assume. Perhaps you’re familiar with the stat that 80% of small businesses fail within the first 18 months, and this is what is holding you back.

While there are always issues that come up out of your control, you can drastically increase your safety net through proper preparation. I have, and so have many others who are on the other 20%. And I am talking preparation that is in compliment to what you may see in a standard business textbook.

This information stands to make the risk of not following your passion higher than the flip side.
